After 45 years as an illustrator, Taylor Oughton has done a lot of paintings with a purpose; now he seems to be on the lookout for things that "...want to be painted," he says, "one of the ways we find out about ourselves in relation to our world and our lives." Happily married to the same wife, with the three kids on their own, it's time.

Oughton views art as a way of demonstrating and commenting on the fact that everything is related to everything else by way of the differences among things: "Sameness is identity, and never is anything the same as anything else. There can only be relationship when there is difference, and welcoming difference is what life and painting deal with. I see a painting-like a marriage or a friendship-as a particular relationship that points to the necessity of variation and difference among all creatures and forms in our world." This view seems to have worked as he has dozens of awards from many art groups, including The Philadelphia and New Jersey Art Directors Clubs, The Delaware Valley Artists Guild, The Society of Animal Artists, and The New York Society of Illustrators.
